What is Thai Yoga Massage?
Thai Yoga Massage (nuad boran in Thai) is a holistic healing therapy which restores balances to your nervous system. It is both deeply relaxing and releasing as well as energising and uplifting.
An important part of Thai Yoga Massage is the therapeutic attention given to ‘sen’ lines. Sen, which is the Thai word for ‘string’ or ‘filament’ refer to the channels through which ‘energy’ (‘lom’ ) flows around the body. Sometimes when our energy gets ‘stuck’, this can manifest as the physical symptoms of stress, tension or anxiety through headaches, indigestion, insomnia, lower back pain and fatigue. A Thai Massage works to detect and remove blockages along these lines so that energy can circulate more freely, allowing us to function at their best both mentally, emotionally and spiritually.

Thai Massage uses the therapist’s bodyweight to lean into the client’s body and exert intuitive pressure along the sen lines and to stretch and open the body using applied bespoke yoga-type stretches. Typically, during a treatment, the therapist will use a rhythmic blend of broad palm or foot compressions, together with more focussed pressure from either the thumbs, elbows or knees. The intensity of pressure is sensitively adjusted for each client’s needs. Acupressure points relating to specific internal organs or minor ailments are massaged and stimulated.
There are so many benefits to Thai Massage therapy including increased energy, releasing physical tension in the body, encouraging deep relaxation, lowering blood pressure, reducing anxiety and stress, improving flexibility and posture, relieving headaches, relieving knee, shoulder and lower back pain, improving digestion, stimulating internal organs and improving sleep patterns.

Traditional Thai Massage is performed on a floor mattress or futon, which increases the feeling of being truly grounded and clients are fully clothed in loose, comfortable clothing with a heated pad and blankets for extra warmth. No oil is used on the body, except during the face massage (and with prior consent). However, I do offer a Back, Neck and Shoulder Massage with Oil which can be chosen as an add-on to the Full Body treatment or as a stand-alone treatment. Please see treatments for further details.
